Apegenine Volume 1: Review by 4/4 at In Time

From what I can gather, Apegenine recordings is a record label that once had a netlabel under the name Camomille. This compilation stems from that netlabel, but as the site claims, it is "no more". However, their artists (some even on the compilation) are still in the game so if you like them, be sure to continue supporting them. A nice electronica compilation with some wonderful tracks: Blisaed's "I'm Down", Vizion's 'Whispers" and Khonnor's "Cantelopps"...

Apegenine Volume 1: Review by Textura

Given the never-ending deluge of compilations flooding the marketplace, is there anything to distinguish Apegenine Volume 1—twelve samplings of ambient electronica—from the competition? Launched in 2003 by Vincent Fugère (also appearing here under his Vision guise), the Quebec-based Apegenine label's maiden voyage collects contributions from the unknown (Kaneel, Mv, Xerxes, RS3, Blisaed, and Vizion), the lesser known (Makunouchi Bento, Julien Neto), and the better known (David Kristian, Xhale, and Epoq), plus includes a concluding...

VGM Mixtape #8: Review by Erwan at Sans Tambour Ni Trompette

VGM Mixtape #8: Review by John Wenzel at Sponic Zine

Chicago-based indie label No Sides presents another eclectic release in the form of VGM Mix Tape #8, a various artists comp of video game-derived music. Gathering acts from Japan to Romania to the States, VGM Mix Tape #8 is just what it sounds like: an assortment of songs created with video game music samples (or faithfully re-created to sound like VG soundtracks). This is the music of the 1980s and '90s, the highly-compressed, digitized...

VGM Mixtape #8: Review by Jay Semerad at Music 4 Games Online

Apparently the 8th in a collection of remixed old-school video game tunes, this enigmatic mix has a multitude of intriguing music packed into its single CD. With twenty-six tracks, each of which require some careful speculation of the disc jacket to decipher what you are actually listening to, this collection functions as an effective "trip" down memory lane. The production is tight, the songs are all vintage, and yet the mix is eclectic and...

VGM Mixtape #8: Review by Patrick Bruneel at Gonzo Circus

VGM Mixtape #8: Review by Adam Strohm at Fake Jazz

With 80s nostalgia running rampant in popular culture, the masses have deemed wrestling shoes again a respectable (and fashionable) choice of footwear, those hideous Astros jerseys are being worn in public, and VH1 made a show that tries to convince Flock of Seagulls and Berlin, among others, that it's a good idea to reform and perform. It's no surprise, then, that VGM Mix Tape #8 makes its appearance now, though that's not to say...

VGM Mixtape #8: Review by Dan Rizer at Bettawreckonize

Here's an imaginative compilation concept. Document the history of the home video game console through an immense collection of bands/musicians who create music using old and new video game music and sound effects as their main sampling source. With a grand total of 27 different artists showcased here on VGM...

101: Review by Mari-Posa

Yet another netlabel. Lackluster, Sense, Ronny Pries uvm.

101: Review by Bleed at De:Bug
